Best ChatGPT plugins for academics, researchers, and students

Conversation history search for those having thousands of chats

When you are working on your thesis or doing a scientific research, you often end up a list of hundreds conversations with ChatGPT. But it is often necessary to find old chat you started a month ago and continue it without the need to describe all the inputs all over again.

The ChatGPT website does not offer any way to navigate through the chats apart from scrolling the long list and looking for the name. It lacks the most basic feature: search through and bring up old threads by keywords.

Enter Searchable ChatGPT - the extension designed exactly for that: finding your old conversations.

It supports searching by exact phrase or fuzzy search and sorts the results by relevance. The search index is kept locally and almost any query is performed in less than a second, even if you have a couple of thousand chats. Searchable is 3rd most upvoted extension in Reddit's /r/chrome_extensions: see the discussion in subreddit.

The plugin is available for Chrome/Chromium-based and Firefox LogoFirefox, and was tested with alternatives: Arc, Brave, Vivaldi and others.

The free version allows you to search through all your ChatGPT threads history. The only limitation is that it shows three top results for every search query (but you can always find what you need by narrowing down the query).

Pinning (bookmarking) the favorite GPT conversations in the sidebar

As a student, language learner or when working in academia, most common scenario of using AI is having a number of 'main' threads with the LLM covering your 2-5 top priority topics, and hundreds of side-chats for less important things. Unfortunately in the web UI these two categories get mixed in the same long list of conversations and there is no way to bookmark or favorite the chat so it stays easily available.

You can add an option to pin chats to the top of the sidebar in ChatGPT with Pinnable ChatGPT addon.

It is available for Chrome/Chromium-based and Firefox LogoFirefox browsers.
You can use the free version forever but it limits number of threads you can bookmark to three items.
